DIY: Cap-Toe Shoes, As Seen On Smile Jamaica

Hi everyone!
Have you heard? Now trending are the classic and sophisticated cap-toe shoe which is an easy way to polish off a chic ladylike look.

The cap toe shoe has been around since 1957 when Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel created the first pair of two-tone pair. To this day it remains a staple in every fashionista's closet.

As seen on Smile Jamaica last week, I showed how to update a pair of shoes with a few simple steps. Unfortunately, I do not have the photographs of every single step, but the video from the show is at the end of this tutorial.

Pair of shoes
Acrylic paint
Painter's tape or masking tape
Paint brush
Clear spray paint
Scrap paper

Measure and tape off about 2'' of the front of the shoe.
Ensure that you measure properly so not to make a mistake.
Press down on the tape to seal the edges carefully.

Paint the area carefully, applying the paint in strokes going away from the tape to prevent bleeding.

Allow the paint to dry for about 20 minutes, then apply a second coat of paint.

Carefully remove the tape, then clean up edges if necessary and touch up with paint.
(You can use a black sharpie marker to straighten the line is using black paint).

Cover the unpainted parts using scrap paper, then in a well ventilated room, hold the can 8-10 inches away from shoes then spray the painted area to seal the paint and protect from the elements.

Optional Steps:

  • Update ballet flats with neon paints or add 3-D effects such as rhinestones
  • Sprinkle glitter on top of painted area then seal with clear spray
  • Use a metallic spray paint in silver or gold for a metallic finish
