DIY: No Sew Asymmetrical Top

Hi Everyone!
As seen in today's Flair Magazine this is the easiest way I've seen to update a t-shirt that doesn't require sewing or a glue gun. It should take about 30 minutes of your time.

SUPPLIES:

Men's LARGE T-Shirt
Scissors
Tailor's chalk (I used painters tape for visual purposes)
Measuring tape

* Note *
If you are: SMALL choose size LARGE mens t-shirt.
If you are: MED choose size X-LARGE mens tshirt
If you are: LARGE choose size XX-LARGE tshirt

STEPS:
  • Make a diagonal cut from under one arm to the top collar then cut off the other sleeve. (I used blue painters tape for visual effects).

  • Cut the remaining shoulder at the seam to open it.
  • Cut about a 13" line from the top of the shoulder down to the top of your bust. (This will form the supportive strap and the piece that will hang off your shoulder)
  • Measure your bust and waist then mark on the shirt so you will know where to stop cutting.
  • Cut the strips, you should end up with 5 strips depending on how thick you cut them.
  • Cut the shirt all the way up the side to open it up.
  • Take each strip and stretch them to curl the fabric.
  • Now tie the strips of fabric to fit.

ADDITIONAL TIPS:

Sew studs around the neckline to add more edge or make the strips smaller and add beads to the ends.
Try this project using a black or army green t-shirt for a soft take on military chic.

Wear over a bathing suit as a beach cover up or dress it up with skinny jeans and strappy heels.

(My apologies for the poor quality in photos showing the steps, as I'm using the new camera and for the life of me could not figure out the flash. #fail.)

  2. I must say, the "Dear Anonymous" tweet piqued my interest. Proper funny!!

That said, I think the entire look works very well. Creative DIY too! I don't know why Anonymous was so fixated on your boobs; perhaps he/she/it has a crush? I wonder if "Anonymous" knows that bloggers can see IP addresses and geo-location associated with ALL comments, etc. DWL! Poor ting; nah no sense smh.

    Anyway love, keep being creative!
