I know I'm probably late and that you guys have already seen all the photos on last night's award show but I had to get my two cents in. You would know I had a lot to say during the show last night if you were following me on twitter ;) why not do so now @imajumaican .
Early on during E!'s red carpet I noticed that black was king of the night and that the cut-out trend (previously blogged here) was the major trend of the night. I salute the fashionistas who took risks with their selections, but kudos to the ones who knocked it out the ball park while giving CBS the middle finger by defying wardrobe guidelines. Seriously, what was CBS gonna do if they wore side-boob showing gowns? pull them from the red carpet? Unlikely. I applaud them for putting a guideline in place, but Grammy Academy, get a grip.
Here are my top 10 looks for the night starting with number 1 being the best.
#1 Kelly Rowland in a daring cut-out mermaid gown by Georges Chakra. Perfectly styled with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and a loose low bun with bangs. She said, CBS I see your memo and I raise you the finger, she killed it.
#2 Jennifer Lopez in Anthony Vaccarello (you deserve an award if you can pronounce that designer's name) :/ I must admit that JLo's look was the best styled of the night, from the high top knot to the perfect arm swag to the nude lips and statement shoes.
#4 Rihanna in Azzedine Alaia , she's never looked more radiant; Rihanna has arrived as the fashionista to watch and has nothing to prove; and what about that duet performance later in the night? Bananas! SRO!
# 5 In a sea of black Solange stood out in her emerald green stunner by Ralph Russo Couture, loved that she popped the green with rose pink spiked pumps by Christian Louboutin. I would have preferred if she kept her hair sleek, pulled back and did more with her make-up. Solange's team should take note from JLo's team.
#6 Chrissy Teiger (John Legend's fiance - sorry ladies, he's gone :p) in a sexy rib-riff lace set with thigh high slit by Joy Cioci. I love her side swept hair and how she popped the look with a mint green minaudiere.
# 7 Carrie Underwood in Roberto Cavalli, I would have loved this dress more if her hair was more edgy and not so soft. The styling made this too sweet, more Oscar red carpet dress than Grammy's. But I had to include her because I love her so much. Give it up to celebrities who say 'Glory to God' in their acceptance speeches. #TeamGod
#8 Beyonce in a minimalist black and white jumpsuit by Osmon. Okay Okay I know she got a lot of slack for not being more bold, but I personally love the fact that she went demure and understated and I salute her for paying homage to my favourite trend of the season 'black and white'. I would have loved this more if the styling was better; say assorted stacked jewelry on one hand and more statement shoes. I love that she wasn't wearing a see through gown or God forbid a beaded leotard, thanks for reading the memo Bey. :/
#9 Carly Rae Jepson in Roberto Cavalli- this dress was lovely but too mature and too heavy for her small frame, this would have been better on a taller person, but a beautiful gown none the less.
#10 Taylor Swift in J Mendel I liked this dress I did not love it, because I think the white washed her out on the red carpet and why did she choose braids while wearing a Grecian inspired cut-out gown? Theme overkill :/
I could go on and on about the misses of the night but I figure those are already covered, but give it up to Florence Welsh in her Lizard gown by Givenchy! :/ I miss Fergie and her fashion risks and Bjork with her craziness, and where is Gaga to put some life into this boring red carpet. This red carpet looked like a Golden Globes red carpet, safe and boring.
Shout out to JLo, the 43 year old
Tell me what you think guys, who agrees with me and who thinks I'm nuts for putting Taylor at the end? lemme knooooowww!!!
