The Journey....

Hello Everyone!!

It's been a long time since I've spoken to you guys, and by spoken I mean when I ramble and don't know when to end a sentence. Well, I just wanted to explain why my posts have gotten more and more infrequent over the past 2 weeks, it has a little something to do with what I see in every reflective surface I'm in front of - a marked weight gain. :/

My friends who have known me over the years know that I am by nature a curvy girl and that after 3 pregnancies I have managed to bounce back and lose the weight and for the most part I've been pretty happy with my body. A little history, over 2 years ago I began a new healthy lifestyle and joined a gym, hired a trainer and got serious about my eating habits. I managed to lose the last post-pregnancy pounds and gained muscle and it was certainly no coincidence that it was one of the happiest times of my life.

Cut to today, where I have not only gained back those pounds but more. I would love to say that I'm making a case for inner beauty and that I'm 'enjoying my life' but the truth is I'm not happy with the way I look today, and instead of whining and complaining about it I've decided to do something about it. No it's not lipo - I can't afford it :D I'm back in the gym baby!

The most important thing and probably the most difficult thing for me is trying to maintain balance in my life. Being a devoted mother/partner/employee/employer/blogger requires a lot of energy and a lot of time that can only be achieved if you have excellent time management skills and more importantly if you are centred spiritually. If God is not in your corner and is not chief in your house, forget about it. It will be near impossible to gain inner peace. Seek God first then things have a way of falling into place.

I have decided to share my 'Journey Plan' on this fashion blog because we all know that when we feel good we look good and it is quite fashionable to be healthy: physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally. Hopefully my plan can help someone else out there:

  • Nurture your soul, ie: daily devotions, listening to music, giving back to someone else or smiling more.
  • Do at least one thing that makes you happy every single day. For me that's _______________.
  • Do at least 45 minutes of exercise at least 3 times a week. Make it fun, and break up the routine to kill monotony.
  • Eat green and lean, watch your caloric intake, and avoid limit alcohol consumption. :p
  • Forgive and don't hold grudges. I know that's hard with the world being what it is, but we have to focus on all the positive things around us and try to rise above all the negativity. Forgive yourself too, we all make mistakes and fall off the proverbial wagon, and if that happens, just let it go and move on.
  • Be disciplined in whatever you're doing, stick to it and give yourself some time for marked progress; and in that light you can expect an outfit post tomorrow :) No there will be no weight loss, I'm just trying to be a more consistent blogger.

I won't bore you with any more details but this is my quote for the day...

The journey of a thousand miles begins with
 a single step

I love you.
I am who I am because of you. You are every reason, every hope, and every dream I've ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life. I will always be yours. ”  Nicholas Sparks - (The Notebook)

Red Hot Military Chic

 Hey Everyone!
Quick post today, my Jamaicans would say nuh lang talkin' tidday! (not a lot of talking today). This camo skater skirt was actually a dress with some great features: light shoulder pads, plunging neckline and side cut outs, it was very funky and the tulle under the skirt softens it up. However, the cut out feautures were a little too revealing for me and made me uncomfortable wearing it, so I decided to cut the top off and wear it as a skirt (I will reinvent the top later) -  the decision to wear a red tank came from seeing RiRi wear a camo jacket over a red dress, I loved the contrast.
One rule of thumb I always go with is if I find a silhouette that flatters my body and hides my flaws I stick with it. So I guess what I'm saying is, get used to seeing me in skater skirts! ;) Plus I so will be wearing this skirt again, and again.

Well look at that I guess it wasn't such a quick post after all. Happy Ash Wednesday to all who observe Lent.

Grammy Fashion 2013 :: Black is King :: My Top 10

Hi Everyone!
I know I'm probably late and that you guys have already seen all the photos on last night's award show but I had to get my two cents in. You would know I had a lot to say during the show last night if you were following me on twitter ;) why not do so now @imajumaican .

Early on during E!'s red carpet I noticed that black was king of the night and that the cut-out trend (previously blogged here) was the major trend of the night. I salute the fashionistas who took risks with their selections, but kudos to the ones who knocked it out the ball park while giving CBS the middle finger by defying wardrobe guidelines. Seriously, what was CBS gonna do if they wore side-boob showing gowns? pull them from the red carpet? Unlikely. I applaud them for putting a guideline in place, but Grammy Academy, get a grip.

Here are my top 10 looks for the night starting with number 1 being the best.

#1 Kelly Rowland in a daring cut-out mermaid gown by Georges Chakra. Perfectly styled with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and a loose low bun with bangs. She said, CBS I see your memo and I raise you the finger, she killed it.

#2 Jennifer Lopez in Anthony Vaccarello (you deserve an award if you can pronounce that designer's name) :/ I must admit that JLo's look was the best styled of the night, from the high top knot to the perfect arm swag to the nude lips and statement shoes.

#3 Kelly  Osbourne in Paule Ka , love her styling and hair! She's never looked better.

#4 Rihanna in Azzedine Alaia , she's never looked more radiant; Rihanna has arrived as the fashionista to watch and has nothing to prove; and what about that duet performance later  in the night? Bananas! SRO!

# 5 In a sea of black Solange stood out in her emerald green stunner by Ralph Russo Couture, loved that she popped the green with rose pink spiked pumps by Christian Louboutin. I would have preferred if she kept her hair sleek, pulled back and did more with her make-up. Solange's team should take note from JLo's team.

#6 Chrissy Teiger (John Legend's fiance - sorry ladies, he's gone :p) in a sexy rib-riff lace set with thigh high slit by Joy Cioci. I love her side swept hair and how she popped the look with a mint green minaudiere.

# 7 Carrie Underwood in Roberto Cavalli, I would have loved this dress more if her hair was more edgy and not so soft. The styling made this too sweet, more Oscar red carpet dress than Grammy's. But I had to include her because I love her so much. Give it up to celebrities who say 'Glory to God' in their acceptance speeches. #TeamGod

#8 Beyonce in a minimalist black and white jumpsuit by Osmon. Okay Okay I know she got a lot of slack for not being more bold, but I personally love the fact that she went demure and understated and I salute her for paying homage to my favourite trend of the season 'black and white'. I would have loved this more if the styling was better; say assorted stacked jewelry on one hand and more statement shoes. I love that she wasn't wearing a see through gown or God forbid a beaded leotard, thanks for reading the memo Bey.  :/

#9 Carly Rae Jepson in Roberto Cavalli- this dress was lovely but too mature and too heavy for her small frame, this would have been better on a taller person, but a beautiful gown none the less.

#10 Taylor Swift in J Mendel I liked this dress I did not love it, because I think the white washed her out on the red carpet and why did she choose braids while wearing a Grecian inspired cut-out gown? Theme overkill :/

I could go on and on about the misses of the night but I figure those are already covered, but give it up to Florence Welsh in her Lizard gown by Givenchy! :/ I miss Fergie and her fashion risks and Bjork with her craziness, and where is Gaga to put some life into this boring red carpet. This red carpet looked like a Golden Globes red carpet, safe and boring.
Shout out to JLo, the 43 year old cougar single mother showing these young girls how to own the red carpet, she did the Jolie pose and then made it hers! lol

Tell me what you think guys, who agrees with me and who thinks I'm nuts for putting Taylor at the end? lemme knooooowww!!!

Be Mine: DIY Heart Shaped Tank

You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth.”

Yeah, the photographer made me do that :p

Hi Everyone!

Wear your heart on your sleeve? That's so last year! For 2013 wear your heart  on your chest! :D The delicacy of tiny flowers in a heart shaped design pledges your allegiance to the season of love while it heralds Spring plus it's such an easy way to add whimsy to your V-Day ensamble.
Wear it under your work suit then change later to a lace mini, lose the blazer and add strappy heels for a super sexy look.

Some other colour combinations to consider :
  • Orange tank: fuchsia flowers
  • Baby pink tank: fuchsia or red or burgundy flowers
  • Burgundy tank: cream flowers
  • Peach tank: burgundy or red flowers
  • Red tank: pink flowers

Tank: Maxie's Dpt Store // Sweater: F21 old, (find a chunky knitted version with studded detail here) // Jeans: Jeng Beng, (try this) // Shoes: Dollhouse // On my lips: MAC's Brave Red //

Tank top
Organza fabric (choose a colour that matches the flowers)
Small artificial flowers
Glue gun
Needle and thread

Any fabric can be used, but the organza makes it delicate.

Cut fabric in the shape of a heart. Pull the flowers off stems then carefully glue to the organza fabric; start at edges then work your way in.  * Optional step glue small craft pearls in a sporadic design *

Pin design on tank then hand sew on.

That's it, so easy, com'n doooo it!!
The best part about this DIY? you can easily remove the design after Valentine's Day and save the tank for later, say maybe the green leaf clover in March ;)

Forgive me for not posting that much last week, bear in mind that if I'm not posting it's because I'm busy working on something new; possibly to share here.

Thanks for reading!

Love and Joy, from the Legend

Only  once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful.

There  is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all.

A  phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon.

You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”

I wish for each of you love, peace and joy abundantly

Studded Sweater

Sweater : Kymani's Boutique (similar) // Skirt : over 10 years old (try this) //
Zip detail tights: ASOS // Shoes: Zara, old (try this) // Sunnies: Mango //
 On My Lips: Ruby Woo

Hi everyone, here's a look that I put together because I wanted to be comfortable but not compromise on style. I chose this knitted sweater with studded details worn over a micro denim mini; completed the look with opaque tights and chose stacked heels for the necessary added height ;) Those Zara shoes I've had for years! Got them on sale, and I wear them a lot during the daytime because they are super comfortable.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far! If you're in Jamaica please don't forget to enter my giveaway by clicking here.

Outlook Magazine Feature & MAC Giveaway

As previously mentioned, one of the big fashion trends right now is the classic duo of black and white. Update this duo with bright pops of neon for a hip and edgy update. If neon accessories are not in your budget, add neon with nail polishes or as seen on the runways on your lips. (Insider tip* lightly dust eyeshadow pigment over applied lipstick for a quick matte look).

With the season of love slowly approaching, we're all seeking different alternatives for our outings than the typical red and white combo. Burgundy and cream is much softer and is more universally flattering. Kept this set sophisticated by choosing a high waisted pants and the sheer top in another sweeping trend ruffles.

Mint and coral go beautifully together, the combination is very soft and feminine especially in sheers, silks, lace and light knit fabrics. The featured set shows it paired with denim, flats and dainty necklaces which completes an effortlessly cool ensemble.

Keep your colour palette crisp and clean by choosing different shades of neutrals in the same colour family. An alternative for this look could be to pop the outfit with cobalt blue strappy shoes.

I'm giving away 2 of my favourite MAC lipsticks  to one lucky winner!
