So I don't post make-up videos, because I don't know how to:/ I will get over this small hurdle soon. Anyway, my little DIY tip today is to mix a little glycerin with water then apply the glitter over your eye makeup using a wet/dry concealer brush in a gentle patting motion. The glycerin makes the glitter stay where it is placed but doesn't make the shadow cakey.

Black Tied (L) Gold Drift (R)
Used Black Tied over a black cream shadow, then applied Gold Drift over the blended shadows.

Have a great day everyone...

The Classics

Hi Everyone! Another beautiful Monday today and that means there is another new exciting issue of Flair Magazine in The Gleaner.

"Trends come and go, but there are some articles of clothing that will remain in your closet year after year. They are called classics and will never go out of style. They remind us of what is quintessentially timeless - clean silhouettes and a colour palette made up of neutrals and high-quality fabrics. From vintage cars to monochromatic shift dresses, today we pay homage to the classics which represent style to its fullest."

Vintage Scarf Print & Houndstooth

Hey everyone!

Here is the vintage shorts post! haha :) thanks for sticking around with this blog, I am by far not the best blogger, and I appreciate you guys for sticking around with me. I know my friend, the blog queen KTRStlye posted that she took up blogging years ago and stopped after a little while, and then last year she picked it back up. I wonder what causes bloggers to lose their drive after a while? So many blogs have succumbed to the instant access of instagram, hopefully I can figure out what direction this blog is taking, sooner than later.

That been said, I have a new post! Yes! here it is, I went shopping in my mother's wardrobe a couple months back hehe and scored this silk shorts in this beautiful scarf print and hounds tooth design! Whoot! Whoot! seriously, am I too old to be saying whoot! whoot!?- someone give me some feedback on that, please.

attention to detail... I love good buttons

I like adding vintage pieces to my ensembles because they add character and uniqueness to what I'm wearing. The pieces usually come with a little story too, in this case the story is my mom's who reminisced that she had the top to go with these shorts and that she couldn't remember where they went; but most likely I had something to do with their disappearance over 20 years ago hahahah :p

I was on TV last weekend talking about Nina Garcia's book 'One Hundred' - where I chose my top 6 wardrobe essentials out of her top 100, here's a hint, vintage was one of them. Here's the video, I look sooo fat in this one :/

Be good my darlings! xoxo thanks for reading.

The Story Of My Life

'Written in these walls are the stories that I can't explain, I leave my heart open but it stays right here empty for days.'
'The Story of My Life ' - One Direction

Whenever a blogger can't find a title for a post, they go for the good ol' quote a popular song tactic ;) hehe what can I say, music is my refuge- and this song has been on replay since I watched the guys perform it on the AMA's last night.

What a week I had last week, so down and out, getting over the flu and unexplained low blood pressure readings put me in a slump, due to low levels of energy made me hit depression like symptoms. For the first time I understood how debilitating depression can be, there's only so much that books and lecturers can teach you about depression, but experiencing it firsthand brings a new understanding and with that deep respect for those who suffer daily. It took the love of my boys, some thoughtful and discerning friends to bring me out of that slump, and yes, music helped. Music always helps.

Light therapy helps too (getting out in the sunlight) staying on a routine, taking loads of vitamins, proper nutrition, and staying fit are proven ways to combat the blues. For my friends in countries that experience brutal winters here are some links that can help to combat the winter blues Spark People / CMHA / Best Health Mag
NEVER! NEVER! underestimate the power of prayer and the power of laughter, nightly episodes of Modern Family helps :D

So this was supposed to be a post on vintage shorts, haha, oh well, I will do a separate post on that... Which song do you have on replay today? I wish for you good mental health, and remember the day we stop sharing our pain is the day we carry all the burden... so yeah... talk about things :) send me an email if you like.

When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive- to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love

Attitude

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to share one of my favourite quotes today, those of you who really know me, know that I pride myself on positive reinforcement and positive thinking. Having worked in the field of mental health illnesses I learned early on the importance of talk therapy and how crucial happy thoughts are in living a healthy life. Similarly, surrounding yourself with positive people can change you and your outlook on life.

"The longer I live the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.
It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.
It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.
It will make or break a company . . . a church . . . a home.
The remarkable thing is, we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.
We cannot change our past. . . . We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. . . . We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.
I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
And so it is with you . . . we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

Clearly I was feeling myself in this photo shoot lol, shot at Treasure Beach on the South Coast of Jamaica. My cousin Sophia Samantha has been a real blessing, learning how to use my camera in little time and capturing some pretty flattering angles. Thanks Soph! :)

Why I started with this poem today? just a few little set backs going on in my life currently, but through this poem I'm reminded that no matter what we're going through, our attitude makes a huge difference.

Ciao my loves! Thanks for reading! if you were following me on twitter, you would have seen when I tweeted Sunday that daily blog posts was my little goal this week, and by golly I am definitely on my way!

Please comment below and share any of your favourite quotes which lift your spirits and any  you share with others when they are down. Inspire someone today!! :)

Dark Florals :: Designs by Coleen Panton

Hi Everyone,
Happy Monday! Hope everyone is off to a great start checking off things off your to-do-lists and still making the time to slow down and enjoy this beautiful world around us. The weather is finally starting to cool down in Mandeville and you can always know it's getting closer to Christmas when everyone is at the paint store and buying curtains for their annual obligatory home remodeling project - Fun! Fun! Fun!

So recently, during a WPN meeting I attended with Nadine, I met the beautiful fashion designer Coleen Panton, who is a local Jamaican artist with natural talent in her craft. I am super excited to share with you one of her designs today. Coleen understands how to dress a woman's body and understands what flatters and it is quite refreshing to work with someone who can actually give you something you love with an excellent finish.

Vintage Chic

‘I don’t look back, it distracts from the now’

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing great and off to a productive week. I've been doing great! my days are full of happiness and joy and it has something to do with the fact that I am doing exactly what I love. Being a writer and contributor for the National newspaper- The Gleaner, and being able to inspire women (and men) about dressing well and feeling good about themselves has been very rewarding. In the process it gives me a platform to teach anything I know and it is such a blessing- plus I get to play dress up and meet some pretty cool people ;)

I give God thanks and I am grateful for everything that I have been through in my life that has lead me to this point. The good, the bad and the in between.

I always like to mix vintage pieces with new pieces because it adds uniqueness to my look and I think that if we adhere to this principle it prevents us from looking like we bought everything off a manequin in a store. Also, my vintage pieces all have a little story to them and the nostalgia warms my heart. These pants are by Jean Paul Gaultier and I got them when I was the manager of a thrift shop in Richmond Hill. I totally lucked out and screamed with joy when I saw them hanging for a mere $8, of course I grabbed them up.

Here I mixed the never-fail monochromatic combo with classic pearls for softness and a snake choker to toughness. For contrast against the vintage high-waist pants I went with a sexy backless bodysuit and popped the look with a trendy metal-face spiked belt and envelope clutch.

Hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for the weekend! Yay! A long holiday weekend in Jamaica! Celebrating Heroes' Day, where we celebrate the National Heroes of Jamaica and our National Heritage. I am reminded of a quote I read recently from one of our most popular Heroes- Marcus Mosiah Garvey -

DIY:: Fashion Redesign

 Recycle, the possibilities are endless…

Hi Everyone!
Today I was featured in the Jamaica Gleaner on something I enjoy doing the most, redesign, making something new out of something old and unwanted. Here's the article, hope you enjoy it!

Often times we have clothes that hang in our closets taking up space because we don't wear them, either because they are ill fitting or simply outdated. We should definitely try and be Eco-friendly by recycling these pieces through re-design or minor alterations. With a little imagination and creativity you can update pieces that you haven't worn and thus maximizing your wardrobe.
Shortening a hem or changing buttons on a garment are small changes that pack a big punch in your wardrobe. Converting a maxi skirt to a pencil skirt is a great way to redesign something if you have a unique print and if you are able to use the sewing machine, if not, I highly recommend enlisting the help of a seamstress or a tailor to ensure a good finish.

Patricia Henry, a Chartered Accountant, was the willing participant in showcasing these redesigns. Shown here is an empire waist dress in a beautiful scarf print design that was outdated and unflattering. With the help of a seamstress - Dawn - we were able to convert it to a skirt by removing the top part of the dress and shortening the skirt to highlight her legs.

The second dress, a linen maxi dress, she has owned over 15 years and has not worn in a couple years. She was on the verge of tossing it all together as over the years the dress shrunk during laundering and did not flatter her. We altered the top for a better fit and shortened the hem to a midi length, which is just below the knees at mid shin. This is a feminine silhouette and is appropriate in the corporate world.

If you've exhausted all the recycling channels of redesign and you are still left with pieces you aren't wearing, consider re-distribution: donating unwanted pieces to a notable charity and bless someone less fortunate.

Thanks for reading everyone, don't forget to enter the giveaway for the black satchel on my facebook page here. Also, in case you missed it, check out the video on my most recent appearance on Smile Jamaica here- where this segment on re-design was featured.
