"He's always asking: 'Is that new? I haven't seen that before.' It's like, Why don't you mind your own business? Solve world hunger. Get out of my closet."
- Michelle Obama -
I've always loved her style, but I just fell in love with Mrs. Obama for that quote. ;)
This post is featuring such an easy DIY project that you just must try it! With all the statement necklaces and earrings that have been trending, I was sure the next progression would be embellished waists. Skinny belts really cinch your waistline and draws focus to the smallest part of your body. So, after wearing a belt in another post from a dress I bought at Mendocino, I said 'Hey! I can make that!'.
So here goes...
|Belt shown here as a headband|
1 yd 1" black elastic
1 yd 1" wide black satin ribbon
assorted beads, pearls, stones or gems
needle and threadCut elastic at a length long enough to go around your waist.
Next, sew stones, beads, pearls, or gems on to middle of elastic.
* (tip: make sure to knot the thread after 6 or so stones to prevent fraying) *
Finally, sew satin ribbons at ends to form as closures.
(optional step- use hook and eye fasteners in lieu of ribbons as closures)

|With an asymetrical neckline it is best to bring attention to the waist and wear long earrings in lieu of a necklace. - (Google sourced image)|
Thanks for reading! .... drop me a line if you are going to try this project; an easier way to make this is to pin a brooch in the middle of the elastic for less work.
Happy Thursday! Wait, didn't the week just start? :/
