What a hoot!

What a hoot!

Trending Now: Graphic sweaters for fall balanced with the reliable denim jacket and cable knit scarf. Layer up for style and find comfort in calf friendly boots for fun frolicking in fallen leaves and pumpkin patches- can you tell this is my favourite season?
Great! now I have a huge craving for pumpkin pie... ;)

She Reigns Supreme

denim and damask...
The Baroque trend is very opulent, regal and dramatic; think strong queen than fair princess.

Damask, brocade, embroidery, velvet, lace, and even foil fabrics are harmonized in jewel tones, rich blacks and anchored by over the top jewelry and embellishments. This trend will transition into winter for the holiday season and will be here for spring/summer 2013 so get familiar with it.

The problem with this trend is if not done correctly it can actually 'age' someone, like me, who is *ahem* over 30.The solution? Mix it up ;) Don't go head to toe in damask or velvet. Balance the look by going demure in one area then increasing the sex appeal in another; actually this is a fundamental style principle if you ask me ;)

Thanks to my friend Petra for introducing me to the website where I saw the skirt that is featured, she's a true style icon.

Thanks for reading everyone! ya'll come back now!

Bejeweled

Barocco: It's not politics it's fashion.

'These gems have life in them: their colour speak, say what words fail of ' - George Eliot

Baroque

From the root word: Barocco.

Talk about exuberance, grandeur and drama, here are some pieces that will transcend seasons, trends and are worth the investment. Wear with anything damask or velvet to complete the baroque trend or dress up denim and a tank.

Brooches are really hot again when grouped and placed on the side of a denim blazer/jacket/vest or worn on hats for the fall... get all your jewelry out and layer them, stack them, pin them and embrace this trend.

This would be a great time to hit good thrift shops in your area to scour for brooches and clip on earrings. Make sure to visit shops on the outskirts of big towns and if possible support your local goodwill, churches and local charities. Remember the three R's in thrifting: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, which leads to my favourite: Redesign ;)

PS... I will be doing a follow up post on Baroque, the downside of if this trend is that if done incorrectly it can actually age you! yikes!! ... TBC

Ox-Blood Red

 Ox-Blood Red  or Chianti Red

A dark brownish red.

One of the easiest ways to update your look is with shoes or accessories.

Featured here are ankle boots by Alexander McQueen. Any ankle boot in this colour will update your fall wardrobe and can be paired with jeans, leggings or a fluted skirt.

The clutch is by the French fashion house Balmain revered for their mastery of rock-chic glamour. I love that clutch and I'm hoping that Aldo makes a similar one soon ;)

Do you own anything in Ox-Blood red? I do own a chiffon mini skirt I bought from American Apparel last year. I may buy a purse in this colour, and buy back my broken bottle of OPI's : 'Malaga Wine', the most beautiful dark red.

Just a reminder: These overpriced items are here to inspire us all, feel free to scour your closets, thrift shops and local stores for anything in this colour and fill me in after . . . Happy hunting! :)

:: Stripes & Polka Dot Dot Dot ::

I've been wanting to feature mixed prints for awhile, since I didn't have any floral prints that worked together I figured I would go to my trusted pals: Mr. Black and Mrs.White, the good old Yin and Yang.

With the resurgence of polka-dots thanks to Louis Vuitton's collaboration with famed Japanese avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama I was happy with my decision of polka-dots and stripes.
The sheer blouse and double strand pearl necklace were both thrifted at treasuresthriftstore.ca  Leggings bought at Shimmer Kingston (similar here shopakira.com ) Peter pan gold necklace from Forever 21. Pearl bracelets from Aldo 2 years ago and gold skinny belt was bought at Jeng Beng Jamaica, (similar here asos ). Black velvet purse thrifted.
My only suggestion to anyone attempting this look is to make sure that your patterns have the same scale in size and a connecting theme such as a colour or hue.

I hope this inspired someone out there, thanks for reading and please share your comments.
