DIY: Lace pencil skirt

'If there is magic on the planet,

it is

contained in the water.'

Loren Isley

Listen guys, made this skirt in less than thirty minutes, and I can barely sew, so if you can sew it would take you ten! I wasn't too sure it would come out properly so I didn't take photos during the process -sorry :(

I simply laid another pencil skirt on top of the fabric as a pattern then cut out.
Pinned the fabric together making sure the seam was in the back.
Then folded the fabric and straight stitched down. Voila!
I was making this to wear over my bikini so I didn't put a waist band in, but I would take this another step forward by adding a waist band with an inch wide elastic.
I would recommend finishing the hem. But not too bad for a beach cover up huh? ;) I gotta learn to use my sewing machine :(

I also have a tight mini skirt in the same colour that I'm planning on wearing under the lace for another look. Here are clearly laid out instructions from Cotton and Curls on how to make a pencil skirt. Let me know if you try this DIY and please share how you learned to sew.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Just me...

If there ever was a look that embodied everything that I stood for in fashion, it would be this one...

Sequin lover: Ideally for the 'Holiday season' but I am a girly girl and I thrive on mixing glam with grunge, I love the paradoxal play. I also love black because it looks good on me. Luckily it is a colour that is timeless- and always seems so powerful and in control. It also says I am not chasing trends, but that I'm dressing for my body type.

Black blazer: I have gained back weight over the summer so the cropped blazer covers my arms and made me more comfortable, hence more at ease and therefore happy.  Listen the art of dressing well is being comfortable. Don't get me wrong, that waist trimmer I had under the bodysuit was VERY uncomfortable but I that was only for the shoot ... I can't pull off wearing a waist trimmer out to an actual event and expect to be happy.

DIY jeans: though some lightly distressed high waist jeans would have been better with this look, I am on a tight budget, so I wore what I had- and decided not to buy anything new. There's no need to go crazy buying everything new ladies, just reinvent what you already own. I'm the Frugal fashionista

Leopard shoes: com'n I know I love leopard too much, but the rose gold in the body suit needed the browns in leopard to anchor the look ☺️ the sturdy round toe shoes gave me the height and balance I needed. I wish Steve Madden would make this shoe style in other colours- as I have them all. I stick with what works for me. Creature for habit.

Red lips: Can be dated sometimes, but I always feel glammed up and it wakes up my face, I used MAC's Cherry liner then topped with Orange from Jordanna and topped with MAC's Morange in the centre. I went more on trend with the winged liner and the glitter underliner for a quick makeup update. Cut to today, where it seems I had an allergic reaction to the glitter or gold liner.:(

Vintage: the black purse- I think we should always add something vintage to your look, I've said it before, it adds interest to your look, also it is a conversation piece and prevents everyone from looking the same.

That's it- what do you guys think?

Sweater and Denim Cut-Offs

Hi Everyone!
This lightweight sweater features a round neck with a floral vegan leather panel at front. I love the leather done in a delicate design, tough but still very soft- which is how I like to mix up things when I get dressed.
I can see myself wearing this sweater with a cobalt blue pencil skirt and some strappy dainty heels- stay tuned for the remix ;)  admittedly this could be seen more as a fall sweater, but I love black and I will only stop wearing black when they make a darker colour ;) this look is perfect for a girls night out!

Brick red and navy

I think about the good things I have in my life:
from family and friends,
from food and shelter,
to work I truly love,
to a body that allows me to move through a world so incredibly amazing and ...
I can't believe how lucky I am to be alive!

'Some day we will find what we are looking for -
or maybe we won't.
Maybe we will find something much greater than that'

Hey everyone,
turns out I do remember to compile a blog post ;)
Summer is here already and midriff season is almost upon us * cringe * time to dust off those gym clothes and lay off the bread.
I liked the pairing of this soft skirt and anchored with the caramel browns in the wrap vegan leather belt and the textured suede clutch.
Went with the pearl spike necklace to add a little edge to a soft palette.

Wardrobe Rehab: 10 Ways to Style A White T-shirt

"I've always thought of the T-shirt as the alpha and the omega of the fashion alphabet"

The basic white t-shirt is a wardrobe staple for every women, as it can either be dressed up or down. It is referred to as a basic because it is one of the building blocks to building a solid clothing collection. Choose a fitted white t-shirt for a chic and seamless look or choose one that is loose and slouchy for a more relaxed and forgiving fit.

Be sure to buy your t-shirts in a fabric that is not too thin to prevent it from losing its shape.
Various necklines add interest: A round neck tee offers more coverage so is more versatile than a v-neck.
Different sleeve lengths will also determine wearability ranging from cap sleeves, sleeveless, elbow length and long sleeves. choose one that compliments your body type in the best possible way by minimizing any flaws or accentuating your best assets.

With the help of Trendsetters Collection - located 3 Perth Road, Mandeville - I have shown how different shoes, bags and accessories can transform a basic white t-shirt in 10 different ways. Every piece of clothing was in my wardrobe nothing was purchased except the t-shirt, so it shows that with very little money we can have a fresh update on pieces we already own ;)

~ * ~

1 Monochromatic Chic: High waist vintage Jean Paul Gaultier trousers are paired with a cropped blazer in a classic houndstooth print with pearl buttons; accessorized with a bold red patent leather bag by Milano. The red chain link necklace ties the look together and is a tougher alternative to classic pearls which can sometimes age you in a classic ensemble.

2 Relaxed Weekend Look: Worn here  with a green sheer pleated maxi, I added another layer with a black vest and chose comfortable Steve Madden flats featuring a gold plate detail and a black and white satchel by Anne Klein.,

3 Colour-Block it : Wear a pencil skirt and a blazer for a chic ensemble, choose contrasting colours and add a statement tote to tie in with the other colours.

Preppy Chic: A t-shirt worn over a soft blush toned sheer blouse acts as a light vest. The polka dotted blouse is feminine with a bow and so I chose classic white pearls to give it a dainty finish.

5 Edgy: DIY distressed blue denim jeans (DIY previously blogged here) paired with a chunky caramel coloured leather belt, leopard platform pumps from Steve Madden and a studded leather duffle bag also from Steve Madden.

Casual: Denim skirt with brown contrast stitch detail pays tribute to the on-trend 'western/cowgirl' theme. I chose bold gold earrings, a cross body bag by Nicole Lee and brown statement wedges to achieve a carefree but trendy look.

7 Resort Casual: Geometric print palazzo pants paired with an oversized tote in a punchy red-orange colour, the nude Steve Madden platform wedges adds height and balances the look.

8 Relaxed: Red short shorts are paired with a cool chambray denim shirt and accented with a lightweight scarf in a tropical motif. Worn with nude platform wedges by Steve Madden and an oversized yellow tote.

Sunday Brunch : A midi skirt by American Apparel in a vibrant orange colour paired with a small black and white leather satchel by Milano which adds a feminine touch; the matching pointy toe sling backs complete the look.

10 Formal: (Below) High waist mermaid skirt (up cycled from an old gown) paired with a gilded damask bow belt; for jewelry I upped the glam effect by layering a multi-strand pearl necklace with a gold necklace together and adding a bejeweled clutch for a sparkly accent.

Be careful while laundering any white fabrics, but specifically, fabrics with stretch should avoid bleach and use natural stain movies to prevent yellowing. Completely avoid the dryer to avoid shrinkage and bear in mind that over time your t-shirts will fade and thin so be sure  to stock up in a couple.
